“Here’s why you should be eating 5 eggs a day.”
“Here’s why eating eggs is giving you cancer.”
“Here’s the quickest way to build wealth.”
“Here’s why wealth is evil.”
“Here’s why you need to drop everything and follow your passion.”
“Here’s why following your passion is a fool’s errand.”
Sound familiar?
I’m sure. We hear some iteration of these opinions what feels like hundreds of times a day.
While seeking guidance from peers isn’t inherently a bad thing, it can become harmful — like anything else — when overused. From a young age, we're taught to trust “experts” and “professionals” more than we are to trust our own intuition.
It is important to build a trusted team of professionals in your life — a dentist, doctor, therapist/life coach, trainer, wealth advisor, accountant, etc. These are people you can turn to for specialized resources in inevitable times of need, much like we turn to trusted family or friends for support. It takes a team, don’t get me wrong.
Beyond that, having a trusted teacher, coach, or mentor who helps bring out the best in us and guides us through challenges can be invaluable.
That said, it's even more important to develop that kind of relationship with yourself — a sense of awareness and genuine trust in your intuition. We all have an inner voice, but it takes continual engagement, maintenance, and development like any other valued relationship. If we choose not to, this voice can become clouded by external noise.
Today, we’re completely bombarded with one opinion after another from every kind of doctor, specialist, trainer, nutritionist, stylist, economist, morning-routine-ist, socialite — all inundating us with their two cents, day after day.
And since we, as humans, are wired to learn, adapt, and grow, we can become easily influenced.
But we must not forget: what works for one person doesn’t always work for the next. We all thrive in different environments, on different timelines, on different diets, with life paths as unique as our fingerprints.
We must do our own due diligence — discover what works well for us, make intuitive and rational choices, and be intentional about who we choose to trust — just as we would if we were curating a board of executives to help operate the Fortune 500 company that is our life.
Don’t be fooled by someone’s Instagram, TikTok, or LinkedIn profile just because of their follower-count or a trendy-curated feed.
Trust yourself and the path you're on — it's designed perfectly for you.
Lean into your own guidance system by silencing external noise and tuning into your gut feeling, time and time again, to find the strategies, choices, and people that truly align with you.
"There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen."
